Insurance

Our associations are fully insured. Both membership and LOW COST insurance cover are automatic on payment of rental/subscription due upon signing a tenancy agreement for an allocated plot on a specified allotment site.

The insurance cover provided is exclusive to the Association and its membership through affiliation with the Allotments and Garden Council UK (AGCUK) of which JALGA is a regional office, and is underwritten by Aviva, one of the largest insurance companies in Europe.

What does automatic cover include?

  • £5m Public/Products Liability (including member to member and members guests invited onto an allotment site)
  • Legal expenses (excluding fines, penalties, compensation and damages; any event deliberately or intentionally solicited by the insured, and claim relating to road traffic law or vehicle ownership protection; any legal action taken not agreed by the insurance company. Disputes arising from or relating to rent, service charges or renewal of tenancy agreements.
  • Personal accident (ages between 16 and 75 only) providing the following benefits:

(i) Death or physical severance of a limb or total loss of sight of any eye – £2,000

(ii) Temporary total disablement from engaging in usual occupation whilst so disabled up to a maximum or 104 weeks – £20 per week.

Additional cover options

Additional and optional low cost premiums are available for Association members wishing to insure the following under the same policy. Cover may be enacted at the time of signing a tenancy agreement.

  • Buildings & Contents
  • Specified Machinery

Note: Options are entirely discretionary and members may seek independent cover for any personal items kept on site from their preferred insurers.
